To institutionalize the process of design development, setting up a design cell at Bhubaneswar was initiated under the technical guidance of National Institute of Design, Ahmadabad during 2007-08.
The key concept is to have a state-of-art design centre which would cater the demand of the crafts persons, the needs of prototypes development for the private sector and at the same time developing a local cadre of craft designers being nurtured in the institute. The other part would be the research and developmental services to be provided by the centre to whosoever desire it.
It is envisaged that such a focused design center will help in building a platform for the crafts persons whereby they can identify key areas of concern and improvement through sharing of experience, resources and expertise, which may eventually foster pivotal & quite significant towards charting a new strategic and imaginative approach in the context of rapid developments around. The major activities to be carried out by the cell are as follows.
